Portrait Of A Cowboy
Starry skies give him shelter
three layers of clothes on his skin
In the saddle since early mornin'
only God 's lookin' down at him.
He knows the hills and the prarie
as if they were his own backyard
Strappin' supplies on his packhorse
a wrangler's life sure is hard
He's a Cowboy tryin' to grab onto
The way things were back in 1840
And the signs of the times
are makin' him blue
He rides on a horse he calls Shorty.
Wearin' a hat with a sweatring
blue denim shirt faded jeans
Wornout boots spurs that jingle
been ridin' since his early teens.
Sparklin' eyes with a twinkle
sideburns comin' down his ears
His silent, soft-spoken manner
ain't nothin' the cowboy fears
He's a Cowboy tryin' to grab onto
The way things were back in 1840
And the signs of the times are makin' him blue
He rides on a horse he calls Shorty.
Protects his doggies from a blizzard
strandin' away from their feed
From sickness and prarie fire
providin' whatever they need.
Cowboys are like ragin' stallions
their mind determined as hell
Shaped by the land that they live on
That's the image we love so well
That's the image we love so well.
He's a Cowboy tryin' to grab onto
The way things were back in 1840
And the signs of the times are makin' him blue
He rides on a horse he calls Shorty
He rides on a horse he calls Shorty.

Stormy Days
My love, you say it's over
I apologise to you
For heartaches and the sorrow
The pain I've put you thru
I didn't mean to hurt you
No matter what you say
It sure looks like it will be
Just another stormy day.
I tried so hard to please you
In every way I can
I guess it's much too late now
You'll never understand
The clouds are buildin' up now
There's nothin' left to say
It sure looks like it will be
Just another stormy day
Dark clouds in life mean trouble
And heartaches be the score
I'm beggin' you my sweet love
Please don't walk out that door
Come sit down here beside me
And wipe those tears away
Let's say good-bye forever
To another stormy day
Let's say good-bye forever
To another stormy day.

True Blue Country Gal
I was doin' alright till the vows were said
Headin' for my pick-up the battery was dead
Sittin' there tryin' to get it in gear
She goes for the bar to down a few beer.
Went n' found me a true blue country gal
Auburn hair pretty face
But man if ya don't know what you're doin'
Wrong country gal can be your ruin.
I was doin' OK till we reached the front door
My cabin was saggin' the roof was no more
Wind starts blowin', rain beatin' down
My true country gal, puts on a frown.
Went n' found me a true blue country gal
Auburn hair pretty face
But man if ya don't know what you're doin'
Wrong country gal can be your ruin.
I was still doin' fine till she cooked my first meal
Doin' the laundry was a big deal
She heard I was broke her good nature fell
Put her stuff in a bag sent her straight back to
(ya'll know where)
Well I found me a true blue country gal
Auburn hair pretty face
But man if ya don't know what you're doin'
Wrong country gal can be your ruin.
Well I found me a true blue country gal
Auburn hair pretty face
But man if ya don't know what you're doin'
Wrong country gal can be your ruin.
Wrong country gal will be your ruin!

Goin' Home Together
The stallion runs free out there in the prarie
Goin' home, goin' home together
The eagle soars high to his nest he is wingin'
Goin' home goin' home together
Down the dusty trail I ride
Cross the river I'm nearly home
You're not here beside me
oh, you're not here beside me
I'm comin' I'm comin' home alone.
I once found true love
I've never forgotten
Goin' home, goin' home together
Your sweet gentle touch
no more your soft clingin'
Goin' home, goin' home together.
Down the dusty trail I ride
Cross the river I'm nearly home
You're not here beside me
oh, you're not here beside me
I'm comin' I'm comin' home alone.
Ev'ry man seeks a mate for company he's lookin'
Goin' home, goin' home together
Who loses his love is left alone cryin'
Goin' home, goin' home alone
Down the dusty trail I ride
Cross the river I'm nearly home
You're not here beside me
oh, you're not here beside me
I'm comin' I'm comin' home alone.
You're not here beside me, you're not here beside me
I'm comin' I'm comin' home alone. |
Take Me Home
Take me back to my little mountain home
I can't stand the bright lights any more
I'm missin' my ole hometown in the valley
My true friends that I once had before.
I came here to see the glamor of the city
I have made some fortune and some fame
But I would trade it all before tomorrow
If I could spend some time with you again.
Take me home to where the grass is greener
Take me home to where the sky's so blue
Take me home to where the birds sing sweeter
Take me home 'cause I'm still missin' you.
I thought time would wipe out memories
I believed that freedom was my goal
But freedom's just another word for lonely
I'm headin' for my little mountain home.
Take me home to where the grass is greener
Take me home to where the sky's so blue
Take me home to where the birds sing sweeter
Take me home 'cause I'm still missin' you.
Take me home to where the grass is greener
Take me home to where the sky's so blue
Take me home to where the birds sing sweeter
Take me home 'cause I'm still missin' you.
Take me home 'cause I'm still missin' you.

Down From The Mountain
Down from the montain to the valley below
Where there is a cowboy home he will go
Ropin' and brandin' all the day long
Then in the ev'nin' you'll hear his song:
Whoopee ti yi ye, wohoopee ti yi yo
Down from the mountain to the valley below
Whoopee ti yi ye, wohoopee ti yi yo
Down from the mountain to the valley below.
Drivin' them doggies to the prarie below
The longhorn are restless movin' so slow
Crossin' the dessert no water in sight
Over the mountain the lake shines so bright.
Whoopee ti yi ye, wohoopee ti yi yo
Down from the mountain to the valley below
Whoopee ti yi ye, wohoopee ti yi yo
Down from the mountain to the valley below.
The roundup is over the work is all done
Tired of the saddle carryin' my gun
Ride to the railroad home I must go
Down from the mountain to the valley below.
Whoopee ti yi ye, wohoopee ti yi yo
Down from the mountain to the valley below
Whoopee ti yi ye, wohoopee ti yi yo
Down from the mountain to the valley below.
Whoopee ti yi ye, wohoopee ti yi yo
Down from the mountain to the valley below
Down from the mountain.....to my sweetlove below.

The Ballad of Frenchie
On a high wild plateau
in the ole Rocky Mountains
By a lonely and crystal clear lake
Stands a whithered logcabin
that in long past decades
Was a witness to tender love and hate
Young Jason was a goodlookin',
hardworkin' cowhand
His sweetheart a rodeo queen
Ole Frenchy was a trapper,
too long in the prarie
Been trackin' the rival he had seen.
Careful don't ya dare
blow that lantern out
Keep a sharp eye on your cabin door
There's a shadow that's spinnin'
your life's destiny
In the chamber of a colt forty-four .
Better wake up your woman
keep your rifle for grabbin'
'cause the lover that she had before
Is hidin' in them bushes
behind that ole henhouse
Till the light disappears from your floor.
He's crazy and mean
full of blind hatred for ya
Will kill ya and shoot just for fun
But Jason just laughs
at the warnin' folks give him
He's a cowboy that's quick on the gun.
Three weeks in the prarie
he's been roundin' up cattle
His mind on who he's gonna hold
Been ridin' the saddle
from daybreak till dawnin'
In blazin' sun and icy bitter cold.
Ole Frenchy slipped in quick
and took aim at the shadows
Three shots rang out, met their fate
Listen, young lovers
and do heed this warnin'
Jealousy will always lead to hate.
There's a shadow that's spinnin'
your life's destiny
In the chamber of a colt forty-four.

Dream That American Dream
Always dreamed of bein' a cowboy
In the days when I was young
Thrilled by the cowboy's shootin' skills
Wished I had a holster and gun.
Always dreamed of bein' a trucker
Down that American road
Marvel at the beauty of our land
Rollin' along with my load.
God bless America, land of the free
Our nation of liberty was made for you and me
God bless America, we've got our dream
In a country of freedom we think
and say what we mean.
Always dreamed of bein' a rancher
Drivin' cattle all day long
Gazin' at the sun settin' in the west
Ridin' and singin' this song:
God bless America, land of the free
Our nation of liberty was made for you and me
God bless America, we've got our dream
In a country of freedom we think
and say what we mean..
God bless America, land of the free
God bless America, we've got our dream.

Livin' Free (Duck Lake Song)
Pack up, leave behind all that greed all that haste
All that highstringin' cut-throatin' business and waste
Some men share a dream for the call of the wild
To escape city's pressures income tax files
Livin' free and breathin' easy
Leave all your worries behind
Livin' free and breathin' easy
Leave all your worries behind.
Watch them baldheaded eagles soarin' up high
See the red ball of fire as it sets in the sky
All them young cityslickers work fingers to the bone
Monthly installments mortgage and loans.
Livin' free and breathin' easy
Leave all your worries behind
Livin' free and breathin' easy
Leave all your worries behind.
Take off to a place that you'll never forget
Carin', good-lovin' folks I've always met
Country folks have a heart made of pure gold
Never fret or complain come rain, heat or cold.
Livin' free and breathin' easy
Leave all your worries behind
Livin' free and breathin' easy
Leave all your worries behind.
Livin' free and breathin' easy
Leave all your worries behind
Livin' free and breathin' easy
Leave all your worries behind.

A Cowboys Prayer
Lord I pray, keep our wide open spaces
Room for my cattle to go wander places
May stars shine over us each night
And always be our guidin' light.
Lord I pray, give me your special care
When I go buckin' at the county fair
And keep me safe up in my saddle
When I am herdin' longhorn cattle.
Oh Lord, my prayer goes direct to thee
Let all people live in harmony
I am grateful for the things you've done
For sendin' us your only son.
Lord I pray, protect the ones I love
And give me courage when life's road gets rough
And let me stand up proud and tall
When my work's all done this fall.
Lord I pray, give us our daily need
Protect my doggies from a wild stampede
And take me to you when I die
Home gently to your by and by.
Oh Lord, my prayer goes direct to thee
Let all people live in harmony
I am grateful for the things you've done
For sendin' us your only son.
For sendin' us your only son.
